Build a flexible DECT system with the Yealink W70B

One of the biggest advantages of the Yealink W70B base station is the flexibility to build a cordless communications system around the way a business actually works.

Rather than supporting just a handful of cordless handsets, the W70B can serve as the hub for a broad mix of Yealink DECT endpoints, including handsets, headsets, desk phones, a conference phone, and range-extending repeaters.

That versatility makes it possible to support very different users and work environments from a single DECT platform, whether employees are moving through a warehouse, working at a desk, joining an impromptu conference, or operating in a rugged environment.

In this article, we take a closer look at the W70B and the compatible DECT devices that make it such a flexible foundation for business cordless communications.

The Yealink W70B DECT system at a glance

Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (DECT) is an international wireless standard used extensively for secure, resilient, cordless voice communications. It is a mature, comprehensive technology, ideal for multiple use cases, providing mobility for an organization’s employees within and around its business facilities.

The W70B DECT IP base station is an evolutionary upgrade to Yealink’s retired W60B. It provides the same advanced features as its predecessor, but expands on its capacity, processing power, and future-proofing by supporting the latest security and communications standards in its current firmware version.

This new base station is compatible with multiple DECT handsets, headsets, and speakerphones, allowing you to set up an ad hoc voice conference anywhere on your site.

W70B use cases

The W70B DECT IP base station offers excellent audio quality under both high-bandwidth and poor-network conditions. It is specifically designed to operate in a variety of environments, including warehouses, offices, retail spaces, healthcare institutions, hospitality facilities, and other locations that require reliable and highly mobile wireless voice communication.

Its DECT wireless technology provides users with the freedom to move throughout the coverage area while maintaining a stable connection and consistent call quality, making it well-suited to workplaces where employees are frequently on the move. Even in environments with high levels of wireless interference, it delivers a stable, high-quality audio experience that seamlessly harmonizes with any business environment.

W70B base station features

The W70B supports up to 20 simultaneous calls, 10 DECT devices, and 10 SIP accounts, offering greater capacity than its predecessor. It supports Yealink’s Flexible Noise Reduction (FNR), a robust audio-processing technology that suppresses unwanted background noise while preserving the user’s speech.

The W70B also supports TLS 1.3, the latest major version of Transport Layer Security (TLS). TLS is the protocol used to encrypt and secure communications between devices over IP networks. Similarly, the device also supports Secure RTP (SRTP). While TLS 1.3 secures the SIP signaling, SRTP ensures that the voice communications themselves remain protected and confidential.

Each W70B base station provides a coverage range of 165 feet (50 meters) indoors and up to 1,000 feet (300 meters) outdoors under ideal conditions. If this is insufficient, the range can be extended by deploying up to six RT30 repeaters. With the appropriate firmware, each repeater can support up to four simultaneous calls with the same quality and security as calls directly connected to the W70B base station.

Up to two repeaters can be installed in a cascade arrangement where needed. Each repeater can extend the coverage area by 165 feet (50 meters) indoors and by up to 1,000 feet (300 meters) outdoors (under ideal conditions). It should be noted that repeaters extend only the coverage area, not the system's call or device capacity.

Supported DECT devices

One of the most attractive characteristics of this DECT base station is its compatibility with a wide range of DECT-enabled devices. These include headsets, handsets, desk phones, and a specialized conference phone.

Headsets

Yealink specializes in DECT-based headsets, offering end users unprecedented freedom in movement and comfort. Headsets using DECT technology can go beyond what Bluetooth offers, delivering superior mobility for users. The W70B base station is fully compatible with Yealink’s WH62 and WH63 series  headsets.

Handsets

Yealink provides a wide variety of compatible handsets for the W70B base station. Arguably, handsets are among the most commonly used devices in DECT systems. These include devices with large color screens, headphone compatibility, and ruggedized handsets for demanding environments.

Here are some of the currently available compatible handsets:

Desk phones

With the use of the DD10K DECT dongle, Yealink's advanced T8 series phones can connect to the W70B over DECT and be deployed anywhere within the coverage range of the base station or any of its installed repeaters.

Conference phone

Some businesses require the ability to set up ad hoc telephony conferences on-site, e.g., in a warehouse, during a medical consultation, or spanning a large office. The combination of the W70B DECT base station and Yealink CP935W conference phone delivers this capability in a highly advanced and robust device. This DECT endpoint is a cordless HD conference phone with a large touchscreen designed for small to mid-sized conference rooms. Its 6-microphone array, 360° voice pickup, full-duplex speaker, and smart noise filtering provide high-quality voice capture and voice reproduction, ensuring crystal-clear communications for both local and remote parties.

Kit options

Because of its extensive compatibility, the W70B base station is available for purchase in bundles, which are popular and cost-saving options for many businesses. These bundles include the following:

Conclusion

DECT has remained a mainstay of business communications because it continues to deliver secure, reliable cordless voice for employees who need to stay connected while moving throughout the workplace.  The deployment of a DECT base station like the W70B helps to future-proof implementations while delivering high-quality mobile communications.
