Grandstream’s GSC3560 and GSC3565 smart outdoor intercoms go beyond traditional door-entry applications. Designed to integrate with VoIP, paging, alarms, sensors, locks, and other facility infrastructure, they can serve as outdoor communication endpoints within a broader security and facility management system.

In this article, we take a closer look at the two models, examine what sets them apart from more conventional door phones, and explore the applications they can support.

Meet the GSC3560 and GSC3565

Grandstream has built a strong portfolio of facility management products, encompassing video surveillance, intercom, paging, security, access control, and other solutions. The company has now expanded that portfolio with two new smart outdoor intercom devices: the GSC3560 and the GSC3565.

While Grandstream’s GDS Series focuses primarily on door access, the GSC3560 and GSC3565 are designed for broader communication, paging, and facility integration applications.

The two devices are very similar in design. Both have a large, illuminated call button used to initiate a call, integrated dual microphones, and a high-performance 10-watt speaker for clear communication. Both can unlock doors and can be managed by cloud-based systems such as Grandstream’s GDMS service, as well as by third-party platforms like Home Assistant.

Both have been tested and certified with an ingress protection rating of IP66, making them weatherproof even in harsh conditions, and an IK10 impact resistance rating for withstanding vandalism.

The devices can be powered via PoE and offer a wide range of integration capabilities, including connections to external speakers for public announcements; smoke, temperature, and intrusion sensors for automated emergency alerts and rapid security response; and sirens and locks. One set of connections also includes an integrated solid-state relay (SSR) that helps protect against external magnetic interference and enhances electronic tamper resistance.

With flexible installation options—including pole, wall, and flush mounting for a more finished look—the devices can be deployed in a wide range of scenarios.

The GSC3565 includes a high-definition camera with AI-enhanced motion detection.

The camera can be used for live caller communication, 24-hour video surveillance with clear viewing and recording of people and their faces, and unlocking doors using QR codes. For the GSC3565, the IP66 weatherproofing and IK10 vandal-resistance ratings also cover the area around the camera lens.

Facility integration options

The GSC3560 and GSC3565 are not simply standalone network intercoms. Their multiple integration options allow them to interact with a wide range of facility management, security, and communications infrastructure.

First, they offer native support for integration within a Grandstream VoIP solution, allowing the devices to function as communication endpoints that can call IP desk phones, softphones, mobile clients, or a dedicated control station.

They also support several methods for unlocking doors, including:

    • The Grandstream SecureAccess App
    • A SIP command from an IP phone, or even a phone call to the appropriate number
    • The HTTP API, which allows unlocking functions to be integrated into specific web applications
    • A QR code shown to the camera of the GSC3565

QR codes can be created, managed, restricted, or deleted automatically or manually and sent to specific users, making them especially useful for guest access.

The smart intercom devices also feature an I/O terminal block with several types of connections:

    • LINE_OUT interface: A conventional line-out output that allows the device to connect to external audio systems and speakers for specialized PA system implementations.
    • ALM_IN: An input for temperature, smoke, and intrusion sensors to automate emergency alerts and support rapid emergency response.
    • NC1/COM1/NO1: Conventional electrical connections used to trigger sirens and locks.
    • NC2/COM2/NO2: Solid-state-relay-enabled siren and lock connections that also support alarm linkages. The SSR feature protects the device from external magnetic interference, enhancing electronic tamper resistance compared with conventional connections.

Together, these capabilities allow the GSC3560 and GSC3565 to serve as part of a broader communications and security ecosystem rather than functioning solely as door-entry devices.

Key features at a glance

Here is a summary of some of the key features that make these smart intercom devices an attractive option for facility management applications:

    • Multiple connectivity options, including:
      • 10/100 Ethernet port
      • Audio line out
      • RS-485
      • Two-channel alarm output
      • SSR relay output
    • One TF (MicroSD) card slot supporting capacities of up to 256 GB
    • External DC power supply or power using PoE
    • IP66 and IK10 ratings
    • Telephony features, including:
      • SIP paging
      • Multicast paging
      • Call waiting with priority override
    • Audio noise suppression
    • Management via local web GUI, cloud management, and third-party management systems
    • Multiple mounting options, with pole-mount and flush-mount kits sold separately
    • Operating conditions:
      • Temperature: -40 °F to 158 °F (-40 °C to 70 °C)
      • Humidity: 10%–90%, non-condensing
    • Camera and video specifications for the GSC3565:
      • H.264 and motion JPEG support
      • 1/3-inch 4 MP CMOS with HDR support

Future-ready features

Both devices are designed to support additional functionality through future over-the-network firmware updates.

The RS485 connections in the I/O block are intended for future compatibility with access control systems, enabling centralized remote unlocking and unified access control through systems that support the standard.

Grandstream also says future-ready AI audio analytics are in development. The planned functionality will allow the devices to automatically identify and report distress keywords such as “help” to management platforms across supported scenarios.

Conclusion

Facility management systems are becoming increasingly interconnected, bringing communications, security, access control, paging, and emergency response together within more unified solutions.

The GSC3560 and GSC3565 reflect that evolution. By combining outdoor intercom functionality with VoIP, paging, sensors, alarms, locks, and other facility infrastructure, they give organizations more flexibility in how they secure entrances and communicate across their facilities.
