Yealink WH68: the hybrid headset built for DECT and Bluetooth freedom

Written by Daniel Noworatzky | Jul 15, 2026 2:15:01 PM

Hybrid work has made headset flexibility more important than ever. Professionals no longer spend the entire workday in one place, connected to one device, using one communications platform. They may start the day on a desk phone, move to a laptop-based video call, take a mobile call, and later join a meeting from a shared workspace or home office.

That is where the Yealink WH68 headsets stand out. While many wireless business headsets support multiple devices, the WH68 series goes a step further by combining DECT and Bluetooth in a more flexible way. Its key difference is that Bluetooth is built directly into the headset itself, allowing users to connect through DECT at the desk or through a dongle, then use Bluetooth directly from the headset when they move away from that setup.

In this article, we examine the Yealink WH68 series and explain what makes its DECT and Bluetooth architecture different from many competing wireless headsets. We also look at its audio features, comfort-focused design, key specifications, and the three available variants: the standard WH68, the WH68 Hybrid, and the WH68 Workstation.

A headset designed for movement, not just the desk

Many wireless business headsets support multiple devices, such as a desk phone, mobile phone, and PC softphone. In many competing DECT headset solutions, however, Bluetooth is built into the base station. The headset connects wirelessly to the base using DECT, while the base handles the Bluetooth connection. That works well at the desk, but it keeps the headset dependent on the base.

The Yealink WH68 series takes a different approach. Because Bluetooth is native to the headset, users can connect through DECT when working with a base station or DECT dongle, then use Bluetooth directly from the headset when they move away from the desk. For hybrid workers, that is a major advantage.

DECT at the desk, Bluetooth on the move

The WH68 can connect to up to three devices simultaneously, typically a desk phone, mobile phone, and PC or softphone. While that multi-device capability is not unusual among higher-end business headsets, the WH68’s architecture gives it a more portable and adaptable user experience.

At the desk, users can take advantage of DECT connectivity through a base station, a more robust workstation base, or a DECT dongle, depending on the package selected. DECT remains a strong choice for business environments because of its range, reliability, and security. When users move away from the desk, however, the headset can also connect directly to Bluetooth-enabled devices without needing to route that connection through the base.

In practical terms, this means the WH68 is not just a DECT headset with Bluetooth support. It is a wireless headset platform that can operate in both DECT and Bluetooth environments, giving users more freedom to move between workspaces, devices, and communication styles.

Advanced audio for both sides of the call

While connectivity is the main differentiator of the WH68 series, the audio performance is also worth highlighting. The headset is designed to improve the experience for both the wearer and the remote party.

The WH68 features active noise cancellation (ANC), which helps reduce surrounding noise for the person wearing the headset.

The headset also features Yealink Acoustic Shield Technology 3.0, which focuses on isolating the speaker’s voice and filtering out surrounding noise during calls. This helps the remote party hear the speaker more clearly, even when the user is not in a quiet environment.

These capabilities are supported by four strategically placed microphones. One microphone on each earcup captures ambient noise, while two microphones on the boom focus on the user’s voice. Combined with the headset’s digital signal processing capabilities, this microphone design helps deliver a clearer and more comfortable calling experience.

Three variants for different work styles

The Yealink WH68 is available in three variants. The core headset experience remains similar across the lineup. The main differences are in how each package connects, charges, and fits into the user’s working environment.

WH68 with base station

The standard WH68 package includes the headset and a base station. This option is well suited to users who work primarily at a desk and want a reliable base station setup.

The base station can connect simultaneously to a PC and a compatible Yealink phone through two USB-C ports. It also includes a busy light port for connecting the Yealink BLT60 busy light, which provides a visual indicator when the user is on a call. In addition, the base includes an auxiliary port that can connect to compatible third-party phones using the appropriate telephone cable or Yealink EHS Series adapter.

The base can receive power from the connected PC or through grid power using a separate DC port and the included power adapter. Connectivity between the base station and the headset is handled through DECT, giving users the performance, range, and security advantages associated with DECT wireless technology.

WH68 Hybrid with WDD60 DECT dongle

The WH68 Hybrid package includes the WDD60 DECT dongle instead of a base station, which serves as the DECT endpoint for connecting the headset to a PC, laptop, or compatible Yealink phone.

This option is especially well suited to mobile workers who move between different workspaces and do not want or need a full desktop base station. The headset charges through a simple USB-C cable, which can be connected to any USB power source.

Here, "hybrid" refers to the hybrid/mobile work it supports, rather than describing the capabilities of the variant.

With the WDD60 dongle, users get DECT connectivity when working from a laptop, PC, or compatible Yealink phone. Because Bluetooth is built into the headset itself, they can also connect directly to Bluetooth devices when they are away from the DECT dongle.

WH68 Workstation

The WH68 Workstation is the most complete package in the series. It is similar in concept to the standard WH68 package but comes with a more advanced base station.

The Workstation base includes a 4-inch touchscreen for more detailed and intuitive call management. It also includes a hands-free HD speakerphone, multiple call-control options, and a mini-USB hub for connecting, charging, and using additional devices.

This package is best suited to users who want a more complete desktop communications hub, especially in environments where calls, meetings, and device management are a major part of the workday.

Conclusion

The Yealink WH68 headset addresses a real challenge of hybrid work: staying connected across different devices, locations, and work setups without being tied to a single desk. By building Bluetooth directly into the headset while also supporting DECT connectivity through a base station or dongle, Yealink gives users more flexibility than a traditional desk-based wireless headset.

Combined with advanced noise reduction, long battery life, comfortable all-day wear, and three package options for different working styles, the WH68 series offers a compelling headset platform for professionals who spend much of their day on calls. The standard WH68 is ideal for the office desk, the WH68 Hybrid is well suited to mobile and hybrid workers, and the WH68 Workstation provides the most complete desktop collaboration experience.
