Grandstream has launched series of smart video door stations that deliver a powerful, all-in-one access control solution for businesses and home users. By combining intelligent access control, high-definition video surveillance, and built-in intercom functionality, the GDS3720 series transforms a simple entry point into a secure, connected communications hub.
In this article, we take a closer look at what sets this new generation apart and why its features matter for modern access control deployments.
Grandstream is well known for its innovative facility access solutions. It offers a complete ecosystem of devices, including IP cameras, intercom speakers, paging systems, touchscreen control stations, and centralized video management systems. The company has now released its newest generation of smart video door stations: the GDS3720 series.
This series has three versions to choose from, each of which has an HD camera running at 30 frames per second. All have white-light night illumination, a motion detection range of 9-15’ (3-5 m), two microphones and a speaker for direct communication, and support Bluetooth for smartphone-as-a-key mechanisms as well as proximity unlocking.
RFID capabilities allow up to 5,000 different key cards, and the devices can accept an SD card of up to 256 GB for local video storage. All three feature a 10/100 Ethernet PoE-enabled data port as well as several alarm inputs and outputs for integration with other security and facility management devices.
Note that unlike most model series, the entry-level device here is the one with the highest number.
The GDS3727 is the most compact version of Grandstream’s enhanced IP video door systems. It’s the smallest and lightest of the three and is especially intended for those entrances where access will be gained only via key cards or smartphone mechanisms. With a high-durability plastic casing and an IK07 vandalism-resistance rating, it is ideal for low-traffic entrances and staff- and employee-only doorways that don’t require extra features and are not exposed to the general public.
One feature that this version has over its more advanced siblings is that it supports dual-band Wi-Fi connectivity, which immensely simplifies deployment. Connectivity is achieved wirelessly, so no provisioning for a wired data connection is required.
The GDS3726 is Grandstream’s middle-range device and adds features and flexibility compared to the entry-level station. It still has the same high-quality camera, microphones, speaker, and connectivity options, but it also has a much sturdier metal case with an improved vandalism resistance rating of IK10.
Arguably the most important improvement provided by this mid-range device is the useful doorbell button that can be used by guests to indicate their arrival. This can be integrated with the organization’s facility management system and IP telephony network, allowing direct communication with reception or security before being granted entry.
The GDS3725 is the flagship model of the series and supports all of the features of the other two models and more. Its most distinctive feature is its 15-key numeric keypad, which allows for entry using a pin. It shares the same metallic casing and vandalism resistance rating of IK10 as the GDS3726, but allows for a larger number of alarm inputs, outputs, and access relays (SSR) than the other two models.
In addition to the SD card slot and RS485 data connection, it also supports the Wiegand communication standard. Wiegand is a protocol commonly used in access control systems, especially for devices like card readers, keypads, and door controllers. It defines the method used to send a user’s ID number to an access control panel. It can be used to connect to external access controllers, allowing the device to integrate with existing legacy systems.
The following table compares the three models, highlighting the key differences and common benefits of each.
Grandstream’s smart video door stations are purpose-built for security and access control applications where clear visibility is not just a convenience, but a requirement. One of the most important features of a door camera is its field of view, since it must reliably capture individuals standing at different distances and angles in front of the device. With a wide 127° horizontal and 152° diagonal field of view, these units ensure that individuals remain fully visible even when they are not positioned directly in front of the camera. The wide FOV is enhanced by a high-resolution image sensor that delivers sharp HD video, providing the level of visual clarity needed for accurate identification and dependable security monitoring.
All the devices in this series offer the convenience of recording locally, on a 256GB SD card, or on a centralized network video recorder, enabling the integration of recorded video within the framework of a broader integrated video surveillance system.
The GDS3720 series demonstrates Grandstream’s continued focus on delivering flexible and well-integrated access control solutions that support a range of applications, from small, private entrances to more demanding public-facing deployments. With three distinct models, the series allows organizations to select the right balance of features, durability, and connectivity based on their specific security and operational needs, providing a solid foundation for modern facility access control.
