Grandstream GWN7062E GWN7062ET Wi-Fi 6 routers - distributed by TeleDynamics

Are your customers demanding faster, more reliable Wi-Fi in their small offices or to support their distributed workers spread across different satellite branches? You’re not alone. Hybrid work continues to be a significant part of SMB workplace culture, making the ability to provide enterprise-grade wireless performance on a tight budget fundamentally important.

Having the right Wi-Fi 6 router can make or break a deployment. In this review, we take a close look at the GWN7062E and the GWN7062ET, two of Grandstream’s affordable dual-band Wi-Fi 6 routers that aim to strike a balance among performance, security, and ease of deployment.

Quick note about Wi-Fi 6

The IEEE 802.11 family of standards, which defines the operation and sets the performance thresholds of Wi-Fi technology, continually evolves to meet the ever-growing demands of wireless connectivity. Wi-Fi 6 is a product of this evolution. It constitutes a mature and robust standard with substantial improvements over its predecessor, and its level of performance is ideal for most SMB deployments.

Introducing the GWN7062E and GWN7062ET

Following its commitment to delivering high-quality and high-value Wi-Fi devices, Grandstream introduces the new GWN7062E and GWN7062ET wireless access points. These access points are perfect for small offices, branch offices, home offices, and small to medium-sized facilities. Each is a compact desktop device with a built-in switch that permits both wired and wireless connections. With an aggregate wireless throughput of 3 Gbps, both offer more than enough bandwidth for even the most demanding small office settings.

Network capabilities and key features

In classic Wi-Fi 6 style, these wireless access points (WAPs) feature dual-band 2.4 GHz 2x2:2 and 5 GHz 3x3:2 MU-MIMO with DL/UL OFDMA technology. This means that even with fewer CPU and memory resources, the devices can provide much more performance per wireless client. That’s especially the case within dense user deployments, since they support up to 128 concurrent connected users.

The devices also include built-in VPN support that enables easy access to corporate networks, making them ideal for remote employees. Powerful wireless security features include a limited-access guest network, network blocklist, anti-hacking secure boot, lockdown via digital signatures, and a rich set of firewall capabilities.

Connectivity to the core enterprise network and the internet can be achieved via the wired Gigabit Ethernet ports or through wireless mesh networking with other Grandstream Wi-Fi access points (APs), enabling easy network expansion.

The analog voice gateway of the GWN7062ET

The GWN7062ET model has all of the benefits of its GWN7062E cousin with the added capability of acting as an analog voice gateway. It has two additional FXS ports, allowing you to connect up to two analog telephones. The WAP has a built-in SIP client that can be configured to register with a local or cloud-based SIP server. If two FXS ports are insufficient, you can expand this number by connecting an FXS gateway.

The GWN7062ET model also has a USB 3.0 port that can be used to connect external storage devices for configuration backups and network traffic captures for troubleshooting.

In total, a single GWN7062ET wireless device can connect up to three network endpoints with wired connections, a couple of analog phones via the FXS ports, and dozens of wireless network clients.

Key features and specs of the GWN7062E/ET

The following are the most noteworthy features of the Grandstream GWN7062E and GWN7062ET Wi-Fi 6 APs:

  • Support for the Wi-Fi 6 (IEEE 802.11ax) standard
  • Up to 3 Gbps aggregate wireless throughput
